Leg 3 -
Sydney - Hobart - New Zealand started December 26th

Assa Abloy got the Double Barreled Victory
After Winning Sydney to Hobart the Crew headed North to Aukland
And North Paid Well!
Three guys were reported ill and injured, with bowman Jason Carrington in his bunk under heavy medication. It seemed this just pushed the determination of the remaining nine to win this leg. They all pulled together and stormed along to a tremendous victory. When crossing the finish line, a weather front went through and not long after Skipper Neal McDonald was thrown into the water by his team-mates, surrounded by a bunch of spectator boats. Even though it was raining heavily several hundred spectators welcomed ASSA ABLOY into Viaduct Basin. Team Tyco took third place in a three-way match race which saw illbruck narrowly beat News Corp to take fourth place just seconds from the finish.

Light Air hit the fleet putting Assa Abloy and Amer Sports1 miles ahead of the fleet that chose to stay well south of the rhumb line.

The Volvo 60s made a 3 1/2 hour pitstop at Hobart before heading to New Zealand. Amer 2's girls have rerigged a forestay strop after theirs broke costing them 70 miles. Amer Sports 1 blew out their number 3 in winds up to 60 knots and had the port water ballast tank fail. djuice dragons had the same problem as illbruck did last time with forward compartment hatches leaking badly, but they were only 13 miles behind then leader Team News Corp.

They experienced waves up to 30 feet in the Bass Straits. Winds 20 to 35 knots on the nose slowly moving abeam. The wind should ease up as they approach Tasmania which could get flucky tonite allowing any of the front 4 boats a chance at Victory.

Leg 4 -
New Zealand - Rio de Janeiro

illbruk lead almost the entire way there to take it!
After 6,700 most of the fleet were tight for the finish. Amer Sports One looked like they would take 2nd, but shifty winds caught them in a hole which enable the rest of the boats to sail by, leaving them with a dissapointing 5th. The carnage was complete on this leg, with a broken mast aboard SEB, and a broken rudder on Team News Corp. Although SEB created a jury-rigged mast, they eventually retired from the race, while Team News Corps went on using their emergency rudder, and was able to fend off the swift assault by the women on Amer Sports Two to take 6th.
