2005
Rolex Farr 40 World Championship venue finalized
Sydney, Australia (December 4, 2003) - The Farr
40 Executive Committee and Rolex Geneva announced
today that the dates and venue have been finalized
for the 2005 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship
in Sydney, Australia. Racing will be run by the
highly respected Cruising Yacht Club of Australia
(CYCA), on March 2-5, 2005. CYCA is Australia's
premier yacht club and home to what is considered
yachting's 'Everest' - the Rolex Sydney Hobart
Yacht Race. In the shadows of the Sydney Opera
House and Sydney Harbor Bridge, the CYCA is nestled
along the beautiful Rushcutters Bay foreshore;
just 10 minutes drive from downtown Sydney. The
Club enjoys stunning harbor views and world-class
facilities. Racing will take place outside Sydney
Heads or in Sydney Harbor, depending on the conditions.
Competitors can expect excellent late-summer racing
conditions in one of the world's most beautiful
and exciting cities.
The
Australian Farr 40 fleet is planning their 2004/05
season now to include events that visiting yachts
can participate in prior to the Worlds. The national
fleet is 20 boats strong, and a large turnout
from Europe and North America is expected. Boats
will be able to ship directly to Sydney upon the
conclusion of the 2004 Rolex Farr 40 Worlds and
the 2004 Rolex Big Boat Series in San Francisco.
Title
sponsor Rolex Geneva moves into their fifth year
of support for the Farr 40 Worlds. "It has
been a highly successful partnership between Rolex,
the world's preeminent watch maker and the Farr
40s, the world's premier racing class", said
Class President and former World Champion Jim
Richardson, "and we are looking forward to
another spectacular event in Sydney".
