Corum
Joins Del Rey's Puerto Vallarta Race As Title
Sponsor: Division Winners To Receive An Admiral's
Cup Trophy 41 Watch
MARINA
DEL REY, Calif.---Corum USA has joined the Del
Rey Yacht Club in partnership as title sponsor
of the 18th biennial race from Marina del Rey
to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, at the same time raising
the prize stakes to a rare level in amateur sailing.
The
owner or skipper of the overall winner in each
class of the Del Rey Yacht Club Corum USA International
Yacht Race will receive a Corum Admiral's Cup
Trophy 41 watch with a retail value of $2,195.
There were six such winners in 2003.
Corum
is an independent, family owned company producing
high-quality and prestigious Swiss watches since
1955. The Admiral's Cup Trophy 41, with a 41mm
stainless steel case and nautical pennants instead
of numerals to indicate the hours, was just introduced
by Corum in March.
The
watch, along with the complete Corum line, may
be seen at www.corum.ch
Stacie
Orloff, president of Corum USA, said, "Corum
is very pleased to be a partner in the Del Rey
to Puerto Vallarta Race. Our Admiral's Cup watches
celebrate the very essence of things that are
nautical. So we feel this sponsorship is a perfect
fit."
Fred
Rapp, general chairman of the P.V. '05 Race for
DRYC, said, "The new partnership, with Corum
as the title sponsor, brings even more prestige
to the oldest, continuously run race to mainland
Mexico. As a recognized name for elite timepieces,
Corum will present their Admiral's Cup Trophy
41 watch to each overall class winning yacht during
the Awards Fiesta at the Westin Regina Hotel in
Puerto Vallarta."
Later
this summer, the Admiral's Cup Trophy 41 watch
will be on display at DRYC in time for the Preparation
Seminar Series Oct. 11, Nov. 14 and Dec. 9. The
seminars, open to prospective entrants, cover
all details of ocean racing, from provisioning
a boat to the safety equipment needed.
Preliminary
entries now number 28 and are divided between
the Racing Division and the Salsa group, the division
for skippers who prefer to break up the race into
three legs but still enjoy the thrill of a competitive
long-distance blue water event.
The
Salsa Division will start Feb. 11, a week ahead
of the Racing Division classes, and enjoy layovers
at Turtle Bay and Cabo San Lucas, with Bahia Santa
Maria as an option in between. The Salsa Division
will have classes for both spinnaker and non-spinnaker
boats.
The
Notice of Race, Entry Request Form, current entry
list and other race information and event details
are available online at www.dryc.org
Entry
forms should be requested by Oct. 10, 2004. Del
Rey Yacht Club will provide dock space for all
starters and assist in air transportation and
hotel accommodations.
All
entries must have a minimum deck length of 35
feet and a Southern California PHRF off-wind course
rating of 150 seconds per mile maximum. Salsa
entries also must be capable of a minimum speed
of 6 knots under power, with fuel capacity for
a minimum distance of 150 miles.
