Cadillac
Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race and Yamaha
Motors Announce New Seamanship/Safety Awar
May 26, 2003
Race Organizers and Yamaha Motors have announced
a new prize category for the 2003 Cadillac Van
Isle 360 , the "Seamanship/Safety Award".
Yamaha Motors is very proud to provide a new 8hp
high thrust Yamaha outboard motor (model T8MLHB)
to the boat who demonstrates the highest standards
of safety and seamanship throughout the event.
Safety is and will always be the number one priority
for this event. Next to the Vic Maui race, the
Cadillac Van Isle 360 requires more safety equipment
and has more safety protocols than any other race
in the Pacific Northwest. In an event where safety
and seamanship standards are already high, determining
one overall winner could prove a challenge and
recognition for outstanding seamanship amongst
a fleet of your peers would definitely be something
to crow about!
The criteria for this award will be based on:
pre-race inspections - how the boat presents at
the inspections dock, safety gear in good order
and properly stowed, radio protocols, safety protocols
and seamanship demonstrated throughout the entire
race.
The award can be won by any boat in the fleet,
whether large or small , big budget or not, the
safety criteria is the same for all and will be
determined by a panel that includes the Organizing
Committee, the Race Committee, and Coast Guard
personnel.
Refer to the race website www.vanisle360.com
for a list of competitors, boat biographies and
other information.
The Cadillac Van Isle 360 is a 580 nm (nautical
mile) point to point race circumnavigating wild
and rugged Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada from
June 14 to 29, 2003. Sailed in ten legs the course
provides inshore, offshore and overnight legs
through some of the world's most challenging and
beautiful waters.
