HEDAL
WINS THE FIRST RACE OF THE TRE GOLFI RACE WEEK
AT THE TELECOM ITALIA-TIM CUP
Uncertain
weather with a stable wind of about eight knots
for the first race of the Tre Golfi Race Week-Telecom
Italia Trophy-Tim Cup, which took place this morning
at around 12.25 in the waters off the coast of
Capri.
It
was a beautiful battle since the very beginning
between the two rivals of Idea SAI, the 24 meter
Maxi Yacht owned by the Neapolitan Raffaele Raiola
(with Francesco de Angelis at the helm and Tommaso
Chieffi as the tactician) and My Song owned by
the King of Cashmere, Pigi Loro Piana, with Matteo
Ivaldi at the helm with the tactician Paolo Montefusco.
The
boats remained engaged for almost all the race
and marked each other until the finish, when the
bow of Idea SAI crossed the finish line one minute
before My Song, followed shortly by the Wally
Yacht, Tiketitan.
In
the Big Boats class, those that are over 20 meters
long, the Farr 72 Hedal owned by Holger van Den
Heuvel, wins in compensated time. Second place
for Blue Wing, Alessandro Abate, and third place
for Virtuelle owned by Carlo Perrone and with
Lorenzo Bodini as the tactician. In the IMS class,
first place for Ulisse, owned by the infamous
Patrizio Bertelli and second place for Monomania,
Fulvio Croce and third place for Gitana VI owned
by the Baron Benjamin de Ritschild.
Once
the teams arrived on land, they found a tasty
pasta party under the Telecom Shed, which was
offered by the San Pellegrino water.
The
Three Gulf Telecom Italia Race week recalled all
the great international sailors: on board of Idea
SAI was Francesco de Angelis, ex skipper of Luna
Rossa, and Tommaso Chieffi, tactician on Oracle
BMW. Also on board of Idea SAI is Cristian Griggio,
Lorenzo Mazza, and Piero Romeo. Other sailors
who participated at the last America’s Cup
are found on board of My Song and Ulisse.
Also
racing this week is Pierre Fehlmann, President
of the FICO (Federation Internationale Course
Oceanique) who owns at the moment 6 Whitbread
boats. He is currently racing on board of Hedal
the Farr 72 built by the South African Shipyard
Southern Wind. In the meantime, the President
of the Yacht Club de France, Pierre Paul Heckly
is on board of Gitana VI of the Baron Benjamin
de Ritschild, who is racing with his wife Ariane,
lover of the sport.
