Fifth day SPA Regatta: only new leader in 470
Men
Medemblik, 25 May 2003 – On the last day
of the SPA Regatta 2003 only the 470 Men fleet
got a new leader, as team Marinho / Nunes from
Portugal took over the lead from team Gildas /
Le Berre from France. The Nations Cup went to
the Netherlands. After yesterday’s cancellations
due to lack of wind, today’s racing schedule
could be completed totally.
Although
she could not participate in her race today, Lise
Vidal from France won the Mistral Women competition.
Vidal: “I could not race today, because
my board was gone. Somebody from the silver fleet
took mine. Fortunately, I did not loose the title
due to this mistake.”
Robert
Scheidt from Brasil did not sail as well, but
that is because he did not need to anymore. His
lead was that big that he could start his victory
party last evening.
The
19th SPA Regatta started with perfect sailing
conditions. The level of competition was very
high. Great Britain won in three classes, but
the Netherlands collected most points for the
Nations Cup.
