Beach Yacht Club Team Skippered by 2001 Schock
35 National Champion Claudia Wainer to compete
for the first time in the Rolex International
Women’s Keelboat Championships September
27-October 3 at Annapolis Yacht Club
For
the first time in the event’s history, Long
Beach Yacht Club will be represented at the prestigious
Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Championships.
Team Long Beach Yacht Club led by skipper Claudia
Wainer with crew Molly McCloud, Liz Tran, and
Carrie Dair, will compete against 65 teams in
the 11-race series on Chesapeake Bay September
27-October 3.

Hosted
this year by Annapolis Yacht Club and US Sailing,
the 10th biennial event will see US and International
teams made up of past and present Rolex Yachtswoman
of the Year recipients, Olympic medallists, and
veteran class and collegiate champions sail over
five days on competitor-supplied J 22s.
Support
for Team LBYC has come from the Long Beach Yacht
Club and individual donors through the Long Beach
Sailing Foundation. High Gear Outwear of Oregon,
Laurie Gaylord Sportswear of Newport Beach, and
the Sailing Pro Shop of Long Beach will be outfitting
the competitors.
In
addition to her national champion title skipper
Claudia Wainer is the 2002 US Offshore Champion
runner-up (tied for 1st), and three-time winner
of the Long Beach/ LA Women’s Sailing Association
sponsored Women’s One Design Championship.
Trimmer Molly McCloud is the Long Beach Yacht
Club Waterfront Director and a veteran inshore
and offshore crew and match racer. Liz Tran, coach
for the California Yacht Club Youth sailing program,
brings her expertise running bow to Team LBYC.
Tactician Carrie Dair is Director of the California
Yacht Club Junior and Adult sailing programs and
a veteran one design and big boat sailor. Team
LBYC Project Administrator Camille Daniels, who
will provide shore side support at Rolex, is the
1997 recipient of the US Sailing One Design Leadership
Award and chair of the 2000 Congressional Cup,
a grade 1 matching racing event. Advising the
team are International Umpire Pete Ives for rules
and local pro Scotty Dixon for tactics. The Team
has been training on the water over the past five
months and is ready for the Rolex challenge.
Team
LBYC has chartered a one-year old J 22 that has
already racked up an impressive win record.
