K-Challenge
ProAm Cup 2003 - Will Thierry Peponnet Keep His
Title?
The
weather conditions have been very bad today, and
the K-Challenge Pro-Am Cup competitors have been
quite disappointed not to race, as there was no
wind at all. That is to say the committee had
to cancel today’s racing.
The
boats have waited 3 hours under the rain in the
sailing area, but unfortunately for nothing…
and even if the crews just wished to carry on
what they started yesterday. So they will have
to be a little more patient, and to get some rest
before the last day of racing !
So
everything will be cleared tomorrow, as the general
placing can still move significantly.
It
seems though that the 2 firsts in the provisional
general placing, Epure by Lierac with Pierre-Loic
Berthet at helm, and K-Challenge 1, leaded by
Thierry Peponnet, will stay at the top of the
competition, as they have enough points compared
to the ones behind (11 points vs 25 for the 3rd
of the provisional general placing, Chacal, which
races in the Amateur category with Alexandre Pallu
at helm).
Thierry
Peponnet and K-Challenge 1 are really able to
keep their title, but they will have to be very
careful !
The racing is supposed to start at 10:00am, and
there will be no more starts after 3:00pm, as
the prize-giving ceremony is planned at 5:00pm
at the Societe Nautique de Marseille, the Yacht
Club which hosts the competition.
The Pro-Am Cup was created in 1997 by K-Yachting.
This regatta allows amateur skippers to fight
equally with the world top sailors. The race gathers
the Mumm 30 owners (9m length regatta one design)
and professional skippers especially invited and
selected. Loïck Peyron, Franck Cammas, Bertrand
Pacé, Jochen Schuemann are part of the
"stars" who already came for the challenge.
The
Pro-Am Cup shall be governed by the ISAF (International
Sailing Federation) sailing rules, as well as
the French Mumm 30 Class rules.
2
general placings will be produced : the "Pro-Am
Cup" one for all the boats registered in
the regatta, and the "Amateur" one for
all the boats which has been given this status
by K-Yachting.
