Italian
Championship IMS 2003 In Trieste - Great Improvement
For Telefonica Movistar
Trieste 26th August 2003
Even
for the second day of racing in the Italian IMS
Championships in Trieste, Italy, only one race,
of the two in program, was completed. The weather
was characterized by the Bora wind, typical of
Trieste, with a speed up to 10 knots.
Great
improvement for the team of “Telefonica
Movistar”, actual World and European Champions
in IMS, which came in fourth in the second day
of racing. First place went to “Wind”,
followed by “X-Sport” and “World
Cargo” in third place.
Interesting
duel between the two identical boats, “World
Cargo” and “Telefonica Movistar”,
both Rodman 42, designed by Vrolijk, the same
designer for the “Alinghi” boat at
the last editino of the America’s Cup. With
the help of the designer, the boat “Telefonica
Movistar” has been optimised to guarantee
a good result in this championship.
“Today”,
commented Alberto Leghissa, Team Manager of “Telefonica
Movistar”, “we were able to take advantage
of the lighter wind, for which we have optimised
the boat. If the weather conditions remain this
way, we have a great chance of recuperating from
the first day and remain among the first boats.”
In
group B, the winner is “Sagola” followed
by “Don Alvaro” and “Pazza Idea”.
Among
the members of the “Telefonica Movistar”
crew are:
Fulvio Manuelli, Andrea Marengo, Andrea Bussani,
Alberto Leghista, Daniele Augusti e Alessandro
Alberti from Trieste and it’s immediate
surroundings. G.B. Ballico from Udine. Riccardo
Guerra, e Giorgio Goldoni from Treviso. Federico
Boldrin from Mestre, Venice
