Maxi
multi for St Maarten
American
adventurer and record-breaking sailor Steve Fossett,
together with his awesome catamaran PlayStation,
have confirmed their entry to the Heineken Regatta,
raced 7th 8th and 9th of March from the Caribbean
Island of St Maarten.
Fossett
and his crew of 12 are hot from lopping more than
24 hours off the east-West transatlantic sailing
record.
PlayStation,
following in the wake of Columbus, who in 1492,
took rather longer than the nine days, 12 hours
record set by the 125ft catamaran, finished their
run from Cadiz in Spain to the island of San Salvador,
Bahamas on Monday and are now looking for a little
r 'n r in the regatta whose motto, serious fun
says it all.
PlayStation
joins over 200 boats in the annual regatta which
enjoys a tremendous reputation for offering intense
racing followed by even more intense parties.
PlayStation will mean some headaches for the organizers
- not the least in making sure the committee boat
is on station in time to record the finish of
the speedy multihull.
Fossett
and his boat, holders of ten of the 13 fastest
outright ocean passage records recognized by the
World Sailing Speed records Council, will arrive
in St Maarten's Marigot Bay on Saturday.
