SKANDIA FINISHES INSIDE THE TOP TWENTY TODAY

IN BRIEF:

* Davies fourth and fifth placed rookie in today's two inshore races off Porquerolles... SKANDIA finished in 19th place and 20th holding on to 25th position in the overall standings: "You could say things are improving with an 18th, 19th and 20th in my last few races...if I can keep in the twenties then this would be fantastic. I could still climb one or two further places in the overall standings and that's what I would really like to do now..."

* Eric Drouglazet had a major upset today losing his spinnaker over the side at the first leeward mark in the second race... As the other skippers swerved around him and the 40-foot of sail training behind his boat, Drouglazet was forced to cut his halyard putting him out of the race.

* Gildas Morvan posts two wins to re-take the overall lead from Erwan Tabarly...only three points separate these two skippers. Twenty points behind is Armel Le Cleac'h (Crealine) in third, two points ahead of last year's winner Jérémie Beyou. Still everything to play for in the final four races but if Morvan and Tabarly sail consistently they look almost impossible to beat.

* Tabarly has not finished out of the top 10 in all the races so far and Morvan was in a similar position up until his disappointing 16th place of yesterday... To be at the top you have to keep in the top 10...

* Tomorrow the forecast is for a breezy day on the water...25+ knots for the two inshore races starting at 11h00. Saturday's forecast is predicting light winds...

SAM ON TODAY'S RACE:

"We had 12 knots of breeze to start with in the first race that quickly accelerated to 16. The fleet were sent off again around the island of Porquerolles in the same direction as yesterday then across to a smaller island. On the reach back to the finish I could see a major wind shift ahead so I managed to sail round a load of people but perhaps lost three places on the beat to the finish as I am still having problems with the auto pilot upwind.

"The wind had built up to 23 knots for the second race, shorter windward/leeward race and it seemed to catch a few people out as there were a few dramas going on out there! It's so full on all the time dealing with everything on your own but you know if you are having a bad time there is probably someone else who is having a worse time!

"The up side is I feel like I am improving all the time and finishing 18th, 19th and 20th in these inshore races is really good. If I can keep in the twenties in the remaining races then this would be fantastic for us. I could still climb one or two further places in the overall standings and that's what I would really like to do now - it will be my focus out on the water.

"There are only 7 points seperating the top four rookies and you could see a real battle developing there."
