German
Dragon continues to soar
By Morgan Vaudrey, 23 January 2003
The
Germans controlled the racing on the Derwent again
today.
The
Dragons were sailing in a steady sea breeze, with
the wind blowing between 12-15 knots, though it
sometimes briefly eased to eight knots. The wind,
combined with the clear and sunny skies, made
today a lovely day to a sail on the river.
Chrisco
(Dieter Schoen, Vincent Hoesch and Andreas Huber)
continued to leave the other Dragons in their
wake, again dominating the race from the start,
to finish first.
The
newest Dragon in the Hellenic Cup, Turkey’s
Ala Turca (Oguz Ayan, Azat Baykal and Erdil Uzaltan)
maintained their second place from the first mark,
displaying some of the form that they had during
the Prince Philip Cup.
1998
Prince Philip Cup winner, Tasmanian David Graney
in Kirribilli II (with Martin Graney and Murray
Jones) fought for their third spot throughout
the race and held on to take third ahead of Karabos
VIII (Nick Rogers, Leigh Behrens and Peter Lilley).
Overall
(four races, no drops) Chrisco is leading with
zero points, ahead of Chimaera with 32.7 points
and Kirribilli II on 41.4 points.
The
Dragons return to the river tomorrow afternoon
where possibly strong winds will test the sailors
and the boats.
