Morning
Glory slipped across the finish line at 18.45
local time (Rio) last evening. It was disappointed
crew that told of light airs and frustration as
the prospect of beating the record slipped out
of their grasp.
On coming ashore, the crew were met by a bevy
of samba dancers with a slap-up meal arranged
by the shore crew. It must have been a pleasant
change from looking at fourteen other weather-beaten
unshaven sailors!
It
is amazing to observe the modern professional
sailor - no sooner have they come ashore and they
are flying off to their next sailing assignment!
Georg Ehrensperger flew out to a Beneteau 40.7
regatta to defend his title and on of the Morning
Glory crew left to a Star regatta in Miami. It
must be really tough at the top.
The
IRC race seems to have settled with Baleka in
the lead followed by Investec and Suidooo 2. The
leaders all had reasonable runs yesterday and
it looks as though the majority of the boats will
reach the finish in time for the Prize Giving.
The
positions for the day were done by satellite phone
this morning because the communications vessel
was trying to mend a spinnaker - thus they were
otherwise pre-occupied!
