SHOP& MILES
VISA BOSPHORUS CUP
LITTLE WIND ON THE LAST DAY OF REGATTA
Istanbul 29 June 2003
Second
and last day of racing for the second edition
of the Shop & Miles Visa Bosphorus Cup 2003
which was characterized by very little wind. Unfortunately
the sailors did not have a very competitive race
as the weather conditions were not cooperative
with the start at only 3 knots and the strongest
wind being only 8 knots.
The
fleet of forty boats participating in this unique
regatta had a different race course today, which
was set on a 21 mile long course on the Marmara
Sea. The starting line was in front of the Kalamis
Marina, then the fleet proceeded around the island
of Sivri and back to the shore near the Bosphorus
with the finish line being in front of the Atakoy
Marina, in front of the newly built sailing stadium,
perfect for viewing regattas.
Winners
of this years Bosphorus Cup are ?Provezza? followed
by ?Team Spirit? for the IRC Race division. For
the IRC Race and Cruise division the award was
given to ?Limoncello? in first place and ?Narin?.
In the IRC Cruise division the boats did not have
time to finish the race so there is no winner.
The results in this class remain ?Blue Dragon?,
followed by ?Equinox? as for the results of yesterday
. Next years format for the Bosphorus Cup will
be very unique. The race is becoming more international
and will attract the IMS class of boats, including
Maxi Yachts, and other One Design Classes coming
from different countries in Europe and in the
rest of the world. Also because of the 2004 Olympics
in Athens, the racing structure will include an
offshore race after the three day event on the
Bosphorus Strait, which will bring all the boats
to Athens, Greece.
The
Bosphorus Cup is owned and managed by ORG Sports
Marketing in collaboration to the sponsors Shop
& Miles and Visa. The organizers wish to thank
3M Marine, Becks Beer, Doluca wines, Barilla Pastas,
