ALPE ADRIA SAILING
TOUR 2003
IN SIBENIK, ANOTHER SUCCESS FOR HOLMBERG ON BMW
TOMORROW THE START OF THE EIGHTH LEG SIBENIK-SPLIT
Sibenik (Croatia), 14 May 2003
"BMW
Tomic", driven by the american Peter Holmberg,
who conquered the race Sibenik-Split, a leg of
about 7.4 miles, in only 53'40". This race
was valid for the eighth leg of the Alpe Adria
Sailing Tour. It is the third victory for the
helmsman Holmberg, who sailed with Oracle/BMW
at the last America's Cup since the start of the
event.
It
was a really great race to watch and the final
result was balanced on a thin line until the very
end when "BMW Tomic" surpassed "Alcatel"
(came in second with 1?25 after BMW) who had managed
the lead in the entire race. Third place for the
Croatian "Scor Team" (2'47") who
is driven by Darko Hajdinjak, who preceeded "Barcolana"
by only 6 seconds. In fifth place, "Magic
Sailing Team" (3?22?), sixth place for "City
of Aquileia" (3'30") and seventh place
for "Clementei" (3?46?).
Finally
the sailors got to sail with great and constant
weather conditions, with wind up to 18 knots,
which strongly favored the event for the many
lovers of the sport who admired from land.
A
great start for the boat "Region Friuli Venezia
Giulia", whihc arrived fifth at the first
mark, but unfortunately got stuck in a set of
problems and slowly lost their placing, obligating
the team to arrive twelfth, just after the courageous
girls of "Val Nautika", who also had
no luck in this regatta.
In
the overall results, "City of Split"
is still leading the fleet with 63h31'46",
followed by "BMW Tomic" just 17'13",
closing in on the leader. Third place overall
for "Barcolana" who are far away from
the main leaders by (1h10?51?) and are now driven
by Alessandro Bonifaccio, who took over for Nevio
Sabadin.
Tomorrow
in program is the eighth leg of the Alpe Adria
