Tornado Worlds

Amsterdam, 26 September 2002
Booth / Dercksen moved up to third position overall
EDS Sailing Team with Mitch Booth and
Herbert Dercksen from the Netherlands had a good day at the
Tornado Worlds in America on Wednesday 25 September 2002.
They moved up from the fifth to the third position overall
due to a seventh and third place in the two races with a maximum
of 15 knots.
The current World Champions Bundock/Forbes
dominated the third day of the Exact Software 2002 Tornado
World Championship. The Australian team claimed the first
position overall after two victories. The European Champions
Backes/Voiron from France continued to be consistent at the
top with respectively a third and a second place, which resulted
in a second place overall. Despite a poor start in the first
race, EDS Sailing Team finished seventh. Booth/Dercksen were
better off the starting line in the second race and took a
third place. Herbert: "We had to come from far in the
first race, but in the second race we were consistent. Hopefully
we will be able to continue the rising line. With six races
to go, there is still every chance of success." Booth
/ Dercksen are in third position overall after four
races.
Fifty-seven teams from twenty countries
and five continents are participating in the Exact Software
2002 Tornado World Championship from Monday 23 until Saturday
29 September 2002. The championship takes place at Martha's
Vineyard, near the American coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
The World Championship Tornado 2002 is also the first qualifying
round for the Olympic Games of 2004 in Athens. The top five
of the World Championship Tornado 2002 will qualify their
country for the Olympic Games in Athens.
