Sardinia Cup 2002
Porto Cervo, 19 Settembre 2002
Comunicato Stampa Sardinia 3
The strange weather conditions that
characterized yesterday’s races, a nice constant south-easterly
wind of about 15 knots, were repeated today which made everyone
think that the same teams would thrive in the races of today.
However, as we have learned from this sport, there is nothing
constant. Today two premature starts, OCS, caused both Michael
Illbruck’s “Nela” and Alberto Signorini’s
“Giacomelli Sport” to be penalized. “Nela”,
realizing his mistake, turned around and repeated the start,
while “Giacomelli Sport” continued the race probably
not realizing of the irregularity.
At the end of the first 8 mile course,
in the first race, “Mean Machine”, belonging to
Peter De Ridder, in the “North Sea” team was awarded
the victory. Second place for “QQ7-Profit” and
third place for Stefano Spangaro’s “Giacomelli
Sport”. For the Farr 40 division the winner was the
German bat “Struntje Light”, second place for
Massimo Mezzaroma’s “Wind” ( driver Antonio
Sodo Migliori and tactician Lorenzo Bressani) and third place
for the “Norwegian Team”.
With the decreasing of the wind the
second race saw the victory, for the IMS division, of Vasco
Vascotto’s “Italtel”, thus improving his
first day of racing. Second place for His Highness the King
of Spain’s “Bribon-Telefonica Movistar”
and third place for Pasquale Landolfi’s “BravaQ8”.
For the Farr 40 division, the winner is “Bambakou”,
preceding Illbruck’s “Nela”( also improving
yesterday’s results) and “Struntje Light”.
Based on these results, the Thirteenth
edition of the Sardinia Cup ( after the first two days of
racing) still sees the “North Sea” team, made
up of “Nela” and “Mean Machine”, at
the top of the class, second place is shared by both “Italy
Yellow”( Both Giacomelli Sport boats) and “USA”
(QQ7-Profit and Bambakou). Third place is given to “Team
Norway” made up of “BravaQ8” and “Norwegian
Steam”.
Tomorrows race is called the Island
Race, starting at 12.
