Grade 2 Ficker Cup was held off the Belmont Pier this weekend
with 8 skippers competing for an invitation to the 2003 Congressional
Cup. With a record of 11 wins and 2 losses Scott Dickson and
the Dickson Racing Team took the trophy and Congressional
Cup invitation. The Dickson Racing Team included Greg Weeger,
Tony Stuart, Dave Ridley, Tim Lidgard, and Max Baxter. Superb
team work made the difference in rather tough conditions as
the wind varied from 4 to 18 knots over the two days.
Two strategic match winning moves made
the difference. Against Andy Lovell of Precession Sailing,
Dickson took an aggressive starboard entry and dialed up Lovell
4 times. In the larger Catalina 37ís and light winds,
no speed means no maneuverability and Dickson sailed off with
a large lead. In one of the last races Dawn Riley took an
early lead. She was sailing fast but left one slight opening
which Dickson aggressively used to keep her trapped out to
port of the windward mark.

Scott and the Dickson racing Team are
off to the Bermuda Gold Cup next.
Dalton Berger from Seattle placed second
followed by Dawn Riley. Berger was the B Boat skipper for
the One World AC Challenge for 2 years and is currently campaigning
a 49íer for the Olympics. His Team included the youngest
ever crew for a Ficker Cup regatta, LBYCís Ian Paice,
an 11 year old Junior Sailor. Bergerís next competition
is the Prince of Wales match race.

The only two losses Dickson had were
at the hands of Tucker Thompson of Team T2 Productions, a
performance sailboat racing filming company. Thompson and
his Annapolis finished 4th. Losses in the last two races dropped
them from the leader board.
