That
trend continued through the early hours of the
new day and saw the 11-man French crew averaging
23.40 knots between 01:20 and 13:20 today.
Their
task now is to make the most of a sea state which
has improved as a result of the calms seen in
recent days. They now have all the wind they need,
but without the "sea of the wind", as
ocean racers describe it... Such conditions never
last very long, but while they do, Geronimo will
be able to go flat out without putting too much
strain on her structure and fittings.
The
net result is that Geronimo is consolidating her
lead over the 2002 record; a lead that now stands
at just under 3 days.
