FIRST ANNUAL NORTHERN CALIFORNIA JO
SAILING FESTIVAL SOON UNDERWAY
2 August 2002 (San Francisco, CA/Portsmouth,
RI)- Great times in the Golden State are just around the corner!
San Francisco Yacht Club, San Francisco, CA will soon host
the first annual Northern California Junior Olympic Sailing
Festival. The event, the first in the area, is expected to
draw young sailors who have not yet reached 19 years old to
compete for Junior Olympic medals and have loads of fun. Laser,
Splash, Byte, El Toro and Optimist classes, with crew of one
including helmsman, will be used. Club 420, Club Flying Junior
and 29er classes with crew of two including helmsman, will
be used. A class will only be recognized with 6 or more entries.
West Marine and Gill North America are the event sponsors.
The event is schedule to begin with
registration on Saturday, August 10 at 8:30 a.m. followed
by an opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Racing will begin on
Saturday at 12:00 pm with dinner that night at 6:00 p.m. Sunday,
August 11 will see racing begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by
a clinic at 4:00 p.m. and dinner at 6:00 p.m. August 12, the
last day of racing, will begin with a 9:30 a.m. coaches review
in each fleet, racing at 11:00 a.m. and awards/closing ceremony

Membership in US SAILING is required
for each competitor (helmsman and crew for doublehanded classes).
Competitors may sign up at registration, although pre-registration
is encouraged. If you already have a membership, make sure
to bring your card with you. Participants needing membership

The cost for a youth membership is $15.00 per year and a family
membership is $75.00 per year. Family members should request
individual membership cards by calling the US SAILING membership
office at 1-800-US SAIL-1.

All entries should be mailed to Jill Mantz-JO Registration,
88 Sycamore Avenue, Mill Valley, CA 94941. The deadline for
registration is August 1. A late fee of $25.00 will be applied
to any entry not postmarked by August 1. The entry fee for
all classes is $100.00 per competitor. The entry fee includes
a lunch and dinner each day, various snacks, and trophies.
USA Junior Olympic medals will be awarded
to competitors placing first through third in all divisions.
All coaches and other on the water support
personnel must check-in during the regular scheduled registration
periods. Coaches who bring proof of US SAILING certification
will be given appropriate access and recognition, and a free
hat.
