Match
Racing also in the Netherlands:
Delta Lloyd Official Partner of Dutch Sailing
Federation (KNWV)
Amsterdam,
18 February 2003 - Delta Lloyd Insurances and
the Royal Dutch Sailing Federation reached an
agreement on co-operation as of March 2003. The
agreement is for a three years period.
The
partnership between Delta Lloyd and the Sailing
Federation concerns an innovative kind of co-operation
and is different from sponsoring in the traditional
way. Delta Lloyd and the Sailing Federation will
develop activities in order to introduce their
products to each others members. In the near future,
members of the Sailing Federation will be able
to take advantage of exclusive favourable conditions
for insurances and other financial products of
Delta Lloyd. Clients of Delta Lloyd will be able
to become a member of the Sailing Federation under
attractive conditions and subsequently profit
from many advantages of a membership.
Match
Racing
At Delta Lloyd’s request, the Sailing Federation
will set up a national Match Racing competition
that will result in a Dutch Championship in the
late summer. Match Racing is a very spectacular
form of competitive racing, in which the crews
using two identical yachts will race against each
other. This one-to-one battle is a game of strategy
and tactics, based on a knock-out system. In addition,
Delta Lloyd becomes a co-sponsor of the SPA Regatta,
the world’s largest event for Olympic Classes,
and title sponsor of the Open Dutch Championship
in the Olympic classes.
Due to this sponsorship, the Dutch national sailing
team will receive support on its way to the Athens
Olympic Games in 2004. This support will increase
their chances of winning Olympic medals.
Edwin
van Dijk (Communication Manager Delta Lloyd):
“Watersports and sailing fit Delta Lloyd.
Not only because we are market leader in boat
insurances, but also as people who sail are active,
adventurous, clean and especially fun. The events
that take place under the auspices of the Sailing
Federation, among which the Delta Lloyd Match
Racing series as of this year, are very interesting
for our business clients and their –potential-
clients.”
Jan
Kossen (Managing Director Sailing Federation):
“We are very glad with this partnership.
In addition to the Sailing Federation and the
top potential Olympic athletes, the individual
members will also benefit directly from the co-operation
with Delta Lloyd. We have always maintained that
sailing is becoming an increasingly better business
proposition and the development with Delta Lloyd
confirms that.”
Former
Olympic sailing coach of the Netherlands Henri
G C van der Aat, managing partner of Trefpunt
Sports & Leisure Marketing, will guide the
partnership between Delta Lloyd and the Sailing
Federation.
