SEMINARS OFFER ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SAILING
TO MEXICO
MARINA
DEL REY, Calif.---How's your comfort level for sailing to
Mexico?
Rest easy. Del Rey Yacht Club has scheduled
a series of three free Preparation Seminars leading to the
17th biennial Marina del Rey to Puerto Vallarta International
Yacht Race starting Feb. 7-14, 2003.
The seminars, which will address every
facet of the race ashore and afloat, are scheduled on the
Thursday evenings of Oct. 10, Nov. 7 and Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
at Del Rey Yacht Club. Coffee, tea and snacks will be served.
Reservations are not required, and the
seminars are open to all skippers and crew, as well as any
sailors interested in cruising Mexican waters.
Del Rey YC is located at 13900 Palawan
Way in Marina del Rey. Phone: (310) 823-4664.
At 1,125-nautical miles, the MDR-Puerto
Vallarta run is the longest of the races from Southern California
to Mexico, this requiring maximum advance knowledge and preparation.
David Feinstein, one of the organizers
of the series, said, "This gives an up-to-date look at
what Mexico is all about."
Have any questions for past participants?
A panel of race veterans, including ageless Alan Puckett,
will be featured at the first seminar Oct. 10.
Want to know the latest on marine communications
and navigation? Gordon West, the leading expert in the field,
will be on hand Nov. 7. Want to be sure you're not overlooking
anything in getting your vessel ready? Fred Huffman and Ed
Tschernoscha will be there, too.
How about provisioning, the return trip
and all that special documentation required? All those questions
and more will be answered on Dec. 12.
More information, including the Notice
of Race, is available at www.dryc.org.
