Nominations Welcome for September
Election to SAAC
September 4, 2002 (Portsmouth, RI)—US
SAILING’s Sailor-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) will
welcome nominations and hold elections for the next council
during the month of September. Election results will be announced
at the US SAILING Annual General Meeting, October 17-20 in
Marina del Rey, CA, and the new SAAC’s term will begin
at the conclusion of the AGM. All registered athletes may
vote. A and B level athletes are eligible for election to
SAAC. The process will be as follows:
All nominations and voting will take
place online, at http://www.ussailing.org/saac/referendum/;
The nomination period will be September 10 - 24, 2002. Any
registered sailor-athlete may nominate up to 14 registered
A or B level sailor-athletes for positions on the council;
Each nomination must be accepted by that sailor and seconded
by another sailor athlete; The voting period will be September
30 - October 6, 2002;
Nominees will be listed online with their Sailor-Athlete Level.
At least 50% of SAAC members must be A level athletes, and
the remainder B level athletes; Voters may choose up to 7
candidates. The top vote recipients, up to a maximum of 14
people, will be named to the SAAC; The seven council members
receiving the most votes will serve a four-year term, while
the remainder will serve a special two-year term to begin
a regular semi-quadrennial voting cycle.
A minimum of 7 and maximum of 14 positions
will be filled; New Athlete Registrations will not be accepted
during the voting period; Sailor-Athlete registration can

The Sailor Athlete Advisory Board was
developed to improve the representation of active competitive
sailor-athletes within US SAILING. The definition of athlete
as used by US SAILING and the process of this election were
established to comply with the US Olympic Committee and the
Ted Stevens Amateur Sports Act.
By participating in this nomination
and election process, you will ensure that sailor-athletes
in the United States have a voice at US SAILING.
The United States Sailing Association
