Internationally Acclaimed Skipper Roberto Ferrarese To Helm NZL 14 in IACC Racing
San Francisco Bay In The Il Moro Trophy July 26-28, 2002

Sausalito, CA, July 22, 2002 – America’s Cup Media LLC, founders of the world’s only organized fleet of vintage International America’s Cup Class (IACC) yachts has announced that international match racer Roberto Ferrarese (Italy), will helm NZL 14 in the Il Moro Trophy regatta this weekend on San Francisco Bay. Ferrarese’s stellar yacht racing career comprises many championship titles including twice world champion in the two ton class, 1984 - 12 meter champion, three Sardinia Cup titles, Kenwood Cup winner in 1992, 12 times national champion, 4 times European champion, and national match race champion in classes including the 470, FD and IMS. Ferrarese has participated in two America's Cup campaigns (Consorzio Italia and Il Moro di Venezia), three Admiral's Cup campaigns, and the Flying Dutchman class at the Moscow Olympics.

“We’re excited to have Roberto race in the IACCSF fleet this weekend as his experience raises the level of competition out on the Bay making it all the more fun for the other competing yachts,” said Tina Keinjan, co-owner and founder of IACC. “Roberto’s presence is indicative of the growing interest both nationally and internationally of the IACC fleet and we hope it encourages more world class racers to race with us in the future.”

Preparations for this weekend’s regatta are well underway. Nick Crabtree, IACCSF yacht manager, said, “The yachts have been put through their paces in the last two regattas and we’ve had time between regattas to work on the initial maintenance challenges associated with these older yachts. We’re now working on maintenance issues typical of any racing fleet such as the Farr 40’s, with associated costs very much in line with these higher end racing fleets.”

Persons interested in the purchase or charter of an IACC yacht can now view IACC yachts available for purchase in the marketplace section of the website, www.iaccsf.com.

Yachts at the start line will include previous IACCSF regatta winner Oracle (USA-49), NZL 14, NZL 20, Stars and Stripes (USA-11), and Il Moro (ITA-1). Format for the weekend racing comprises one buoy race starting at 2pm on Friday July 26, two buoy races starting at 10:30am on Saturday July 27, and a distance race starting at 10:30am on Sunday July 28, with an Awards Ceremony at the Sausalito Yacht Club at 4pm. The schedule is subject to change depending on weather. Times are approximate and will be listed on the information board in the Sausalito Yacht Club over the weekend.
