LONG
BEACH, CA. (July 27, 2004) – The summer
racing season has kicked off and crews are out
on the water thrashing around the course with
the goal of a trophy in mind. This is the time
when the majority of tuning is done in preparation
for larger events, and for Long Beach sailors
in particular, the Annual Yacht Clubs of Long
Beach Charity Regatta benefiting The Children’s
Clinic.
The
event has historically drawn a good-sized fleet
of PHRF, one-designs and dinghy classes. This
year’s event will be on Sunday, September
26, a return from being held the last Saturday
of September which had seen a decline in participation.
The
Charity Regatta isn’t just about racing.
There are also many events held throughout the
summer leading up to the regatta which contribute
to the overall donation to The Children’s
Clinic. The first of the season was a Pancake
Breakfast and Swap Meet which was held July 11.
The event was a tremendous success seeing over
$2,100 in total earnings, up from about $1,600
the year before.
The
next event is a golf tournament sponsored by Cerritos
Bahia Yacht Club on Saturday, August 21 at Rec
Park South in Long Beach, CA. Over $500 in prize
money will be given away for competitions such
as longest drive and closest shot to the hole,
plus $50 to the top female and male competitor.
For more information about the tournament or to
enter, contact Robin White at 562-755-9457.
The
event is hosted by: Alamitos Bay Yacht Club, Cerritos
Bahia Yacht Club, Little Ships Fleet Yacht Club,
Long Beach Yacht Club, Navy Yacht Club, Seal Beach
Yacht Club and Shoreline Yacht Club of Long Beach.

The
Children's Clinic, Serving Children and Their
Families (TCC), founded in 1939 by a group of
local physicians and community leaders, is an
independent non-profit licensed community clinic
dedicated to providing comprehensive health care
in a culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate
manner to medically underserved, low-income and
high-risk populations in Long Beach and surrounding
communities.
WHO
DO THEY SERVE?
TCC provides care for the most underserved in
the community. To be eligible for services,
a child or adult must be uninsured, underinsured,
or a Medi-Cal recipient. Families are asked
to contribute to their care according to a sliding
fee scale, yet no one is refused care because
of an inability to pay.
WHAT
DO THEY PROVIDE?
The Children's Clinic provides medical care
and counseling for well-child visits; acute
and chronic care; community outreach and education;
immunizations; laboratory testing; prescribed
medications; linkage to community resources;
evening and Saturday morning hours; and an Adult
Clinic. TCC continues to serve as a true medical
home with 24- hour telephone accessibility to
staff pediatricians and care to children who
are hospitalized. For the 2001 fiscal year,
